St. V's Nursery Details Part II

Hello there, I hope you had a great weekend. Shall we continue with the details of the St. Vincent's/ABC3340 nursery? First up.....

The glider came from Storkland and the pillow from Etsy. We added another pillow that matched the ottoman, not pictured here. Ottoman was custom made, e-mail me @ mstronginteriors@aol.com for quote.

Bedding- Sheet and crib courtesy of Pottery Barn Kids, skirt Robert Allen available through Marianne Strong Interiors.

Not a great picture but the best I had of the skirt close up.

Frames Target, painted custom color. Prints inside frames are actually pages from the book Wherever You Are by Nancy Tillman. AKA the book that makes me cry every time I read it.

Light, to the trade, available through Marianne Strong Interiors.

Ceiling- you probably already know since it is a cult classic- Osborne and Little's Coronata Star.

Dresser available through At Home.

St. V's Nursery Details Part 1

Alright, let's get back to the St. Vincent's Nursery. Some detail shots and information for y'all.

The first time I met the winners they told me their son was going to be named Boston in part because of Dad's love for the Red Sox. When I saw this mobile I knew it was meant to be.

I have received ~~lots~~ LOTS of inquiries about these letters. They were my starting point in this space and I LOVE them just as much as y'all do. They are from Frontera in Birmingham, I also saw some similar at Scotts in Atlanta.

This light is a trade item and available through Marianne Strong Interiors. I included this shot though because you can see the inside detail. I knew I wanted an iron/industrial look to the light but when it went up it needed something else. All brown iron was too much, too dark and imposing. So, I painted the inside a metallic silver to match the stars in the wallpaper and it ended up being just what the light needed. I swear it is the smallest details that matter.

A HUGE thank you to the vendors who helped make this room possible. The design of the room did not start until after the winner was chosen. I felt it was important to really design the space for the specific family so I did not try to start a design before I knew who it was. That left less than 3 weeks to pull everything together and that meant a lot of express orders/shipping/overall general break-neck hustling. I could not have done it without wonderful companies. St. Vincent Nursery Pictures!

This past Spring I had the incredible honor of being asked by St. Vincent's Hospital to design a nursery for a deserving family. St. Vincent's partnered with ABC33/40 to host the contest. Out of all the entries three were chosen to share their story on Talk of Alabama. From there, viewers voted and one deserving family was picked. The Reed family lost their home during the January tornados that came through Alabama. They had to rebuild from the ground up. I am so, so grateful I was able to design the nursery for them. Two weeks was all the time I had once the winner was chosen. Usually in this industry you cannot accomplish anything in two weeks but some amazing people and companies helped me out. Details shots and information coming in a follow-up post.

Work In Progress- Client Powder Room

This is a quick before and after of an install we did this week. More to come- like pictures not taken on my phone- and more of the house which is coming along so well....

I will try to get better pictures of both, but I will say the faux marble sink left something to be desired.....I can't wait for "real" pictures because this space is so pretty....

New at Schu

One of my favorite times in regards to work is when companies come out with new lines/collections. It is easy to get bored with the current fabrics and wallpapers when you see them all the time so it is nice when something fresh comes along. I missed Schumacher's latest collection introduction recently being preoccupied with other matters but thankfully my fabulous rep kept me in the loop...

I do love a good paisley which is funny because the decorator I started with did not and I always think of her when the scrolly (I know not a real word) pattern pops up.

Texture, color, pattern, oh my...

The Nursery: Looking Up

Originally I wanted to wallpaper the whole nursery, which I have not completely ruled out, but most recently I have been pondering just doing the ceiling. The first samples are in and I am not sure what to think....There are several I really like but they all have their own problems: too large of scale (not that that would stop me), too dark on low ceilings (probably would not stop me either), big price tags for this purpose (okay this one might be a deal breaker). There are still some more on the way, I will let you know when those arrive. Here are some more that did not make the cut for this project but I do love them...

Especially this one. Beaded, metallic paper? Yes please, you need to be used in a client's home or my future home...

More Paper Inspiration

Tomorrow we find out what we having and then it will be time to start thinking about the nursery. Anthropologie already inspired me with a rocker (which unless my fairy godmother shows up will not be ours) and now their wallpaper has my wheels spinning as well...This would be so cute in the back of a bookcase or cabinet...
Most of these are too bold for a whole room but they sure could be cute used in some way...
Of course most of these lean feminine, if we have a boy I will have to switch up the search. Either way I am pretty sure I will use wallpaper.

Let's Take A Vote...Girl's Wallpaper

Oh the joys compromise...I get asked a lot if I have free rein when it comes to decorating my own house and the answer is no. I do ask for Patrick's input/opinion a lot and trust me, he has one. Now there are definitely times when those go in one ear and out the other. When I know he will love something in the end and just doesn't have the vision for it at the moment I might just go ahead and do it anyway...ahem. Which brings us to the nursery. I found this wallpaper when looking for a client right before we found out we were pregnant (we don't know yet what we are having)...
I LOVED it and filed it away to use in the future...I just didn't know where because it is on the funky side and needs a special home. Then when we found out we were having a baby it popped right into my mind (and is probably the reason I feel like we are having a girl lately)...
HOWEVER, when I showed it to Patrick it went a little something like this:

Me: What do you think about this wallpaper?
P: Hate it, why?
Me: Because....if we have a girl I am thinking about using it in the nursery
P: Ughhhhh, No.
Me: WHYYYYYYYYYYY??????????
P:No.
Me: I need a better reason...
P: I don't like floral wallpapers.
Me: But it isn't really a true floral in the traditional sense...

This is when we both eye each other and silently call a truce. He is thinking that I have access to thousands of wallpapers and will continue the search and is glad not to have to continue the debate of what is a "floral" wallpaper. I am thinking that I will file this away for now and if we find out it is a girl that I will pull it back out and revisit.
In the end though unless he has a change of heart I won't use this, I can tell he really is not a fan and I want him to love our nursery too.
I do understand this is not a universally likable wallpaper. Which makes me wonder what you all think? Love it or not so much? Don't worry about hurting my feelings, even though I love it I can see both sides.
